Find the answers to your Vortex Gaming questions here.
1. How does Vortex work?
Vortex Gaming and Pixel by Vortex operate on a cashless card system. You receive a card which can be topped up via the self-service kiosks or with a crew member at the till. Your cash gets converted into tokens to play the games. To play, just tap your gaming card on the card reader on each machine and it will deduct tokens accordingly and update your balance.
2. Do I need to pre-book?
There is no need to pre-book, you can simply turn up, grab a Vortex Gaming card and get started!
3. How much does it cost?
You will receive 4 tokens for every £1 that you top up on your card. There are also promotional offers available.
Individual game prices vary between from 2 up to 28 tokens for the VR Omni Arena (equivalent to £7), or 15 tokens (£3.75) for the VR Family simulator.
4. How can I pay?
In both Vortex Gaming and Pixel by Vortex, the tills and the Kiosks accept cash and debit card payments (including contactless and mobile pay options). Please note that we cannot accept credit card payments in compliance with Gambling Act Restrictions.
5. What if I run out of tokens, but want to continue playing?
The Vortex Gaming card is reloadable, so if your balance is low you can always top it up at a kiosk or with a team member and continue playing.
6. Can I get my money back for remaining tokens?
Unfortunately not, tokens are non-refundable however you can save any remaining balances until your next visit or alternatively you can dispose of your card with a team member.
7. What are the tickets for?
On some games you get the chance to win tickets, these can be loaded onto your card and redeemed for prizes. We have a wide selection of prizes to choose from, and you can save your ticket balance on your card and keep adding to it upon each visit.
8. Can I use my ticket balance to play the games?
Unfortunately not, tickets are different to tokens. The tokens are purchased and used to play the games. Tickets are what you win on some of the games, which can be used to redeem a prize.
9. Is there a time limit on the amount of time I can store tickets or tokens on my card?
There is no expiry, so you can keep saving up your tickets and/or tokens for as long as you like and they will still be valid.
10. What if I lose my card?
You can register your gaming card with us in Vortex Gaming at any time. This can be done at the kiosks by clicking the add/update details button, or with a crew member. We register your details to the card so that if it’s ever lost we can check your details in the system and will be able to reissue you a brand new card with your original balance of tickets and tokens. If your card is not registered and it is lost, unfortunately we won’t be able to reissue any previous balances.
11. Can balances be transferred?
Yes. Token balances can be transferred so long as it’s not a bonus purchase. Tickets can also be combined. Please note that once cards have been combined, this is a permanent transfer and will leave the remaining cards empty.
Tickets can be temporarily combined during a redemption transaction if you wish to add together your balances to redeem a higher valued prize.
12. Can I purchase prizes with cash instead of tickets?
Unfortunately not, due to licensing laws the Vortex Gaming prizes are available on a redemption basis only. But if there is a prize that you really want, you can save your tickets and add to them each visit until you have enough to redeem the item that you have your eye on.
13. How do I book a party or group experience?
There are two Vortex party packages to choose from. To book a group Vortex experience, just ask a member of the crew, or complete the online enquiry form. The booking team will get back to you as soon as possible regarding your enquiry. You can also call the team directly on 0121 273 1000. The maximum party size is 16 children.
14. Are there gift cards available?
Yes, you can purchase a Vortex Gaming card as a gift. Gift cards are available to purchase from Vortex and Pixel. Simply ask a member of the crew at the kiosk.
15. Is there food available at Vortex Gaming and how much does it cost?
We have a selection of snacks and drinks available at Vortex Gaming, including milkshakes, smoothies and sandwiches. Meal deal options are available. View our menu.
16. Are there any restrictions on game play?
We advise all customers to ask a team member or read the disclaimers posted at each system if they have any concerns.
The Omni Arena virtual reality experience on the upstairs level requires you to be strapped in for game play. Therefore, it is generally not recommended for under 12s due to the height required.
The VR Family experience also has a suggested minimum age of eight years, however this is down to the parent or guardian’s discretion.
The crew are happy to assist and assess the situation if you are unsure.
17. Where is Vortex Gaming?
You can find Vortex on the first floor of Resorts World Birmingham, opposite the cinema. We’re just 10 minutes walk from Birmingham International train station and the NEC, and easily accessible by car via the M42 (J6), the A452 or A45.
A second family entertainment centre, Pixel by Vortex, can be found on the Ground Floor of Resorts World. Pixel offers a playful digital experience for children of all ages, including retro classics like Mario Kart.
